My beautiful friend Liz requested a makeover to celebrate her birthday. She wanted me to do her makeup and take her pictures. Her only request was a smokey eye and she gave me complete artistic freedom with everything else – music to my ears of course! I did her makeup and photo shoot at my house; since she wanted an evening makeup look I chose a dark background for her photoshoot in order to give her pictures a more dramatic look. So keep scrolling to learn how I created this makeup look.

Liz has combination skin so I used two Makeup Forever Primers – the Mattifying Primer on her T-zones and the Smoothing Primer on the rest of her face. I then applied the Urban Decay Priming Potion on her upper eyelids and the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer on her lips.
Once her face was prepped, I moved onto her eye area. I defined her brows using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Chocolate, and then a created a reverse smokey eye (click here to watch a video I made on how to create a reverse smokey eye). The main eyelid colour I used was a gold coloured eyeshadow called ‘Senegal’ from The Saharan Palette by Juvia’s Place. I wanted the gold eyeshadow to really pop, so I sprayed my brush with Mac Fix + which intensified the colour.
I lined her eyes with Inglot’s AMC Eyeliner Gel in colour 77 and applied a light pair of strip lashes for extra drama.
On her face I used MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC45 for foundation and then I used the LA Pro Concealer in Pure Beige to highlight under her eyes, forehead, bridge of her nose and chin. I used the Sacha Buttercup Setting Powder to set these highlighted areas. To bronze her skin, I applied MAC Mineralised Skin Finish in Dark Deep to the perimeters of her face and I also used this to lightly contour her nose. I contoured her cheek bones using the Inglot eyeshadow in colour 298.
To highlight the high points of her face I used the gold colour of the Inglot Highlighting Trio in colour 104. I finished off the look by creating a bold red lip using MAC Lip Pencil in Cherry and layering MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo over the top. Ruby Woo is a blue toned red lipstick that works for just about any skin tone; it never fails to add drama to a makeup look. Finally, I set her face with a mix of MAC Fix + and NYX Setting Spray in Matte Finish.
I then spent about an hour taking Liz’s pictures. This girl came ready to pose! Liz is not camera shy and I love her readiness to try different things. It really was a fun shoot and we ended the session with food, drinks and lots of laughter. I think that makeovers are a great way to celebrate birthdays or important milestones; it’s nice to have professional pictures to look back on, so consider gifting someone you love with a makeover gift voucher.
Happy birthday Liz, and here’s to celebrating many more happy years!
