MSA'S CHOC & CHERRY PROTEIN SMOOTHIE

Ahhh, it’s finally summer – my favourite season of the year! On warm summer mornings I really like having an ice cold smoothie to start the day. It makes me feel refreshed and ready to go. After experimenting with some chocolate protein powder and frozen cherries, I came up with a recipe that satisfies the chocolate monster that lives within me, but also keeps me full until the afternoon. I called it: MSA’S Choc & Cherry Protein Smoothie.  The flavour of this smoothie is close to that of a black forest cake, but thankfully without all the calories. YAY!!! I love it when it feels like I’m having a dessert for breakfast!

Another cool thing about this recipe it that it’s so quick to make, this is why I love making it after a morning workout session – I’m just too exhausted to cook an elaborate breakfast. I usually have this smoothie with some toast or muesli, but you could also have it as a snack during the day. And here’s another tip: if you reduce the amount of milk and omit the rolled oats you can create a mousse-like dessert. So give this recipe a go (see below) and let me know what you think. It’s one of my new favourites.

    Ingredients:

    • 250 mls semi-skimmed Milk (but you can use any kind of milk)
    • 1 scoop (34 grams) Chocolate Whey Protein Powder (I used USN Precision Complete Whey Protein concentrate and Isolate. Each scoop of this whey powder has 24 grams protein, 2.1 grams of total fat and only 1.1 gram saturated fat).
    • 80 grams frozen cherries (or a large handful)
    • 1/4 cup rolled oats

    Instructions:

    1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend for a few minutes until smooth. That’s literally it!!
