Introducing look 1 of my 3 part series on Bridal makeup……..
A few months ago, I suddenly had an idea of celebrating bridal makeup across different cultures. I love how different cultures vary in their interpretation of bridal beauty – every interpretation is wonderful and confirms that the definition of beauty must encompass diversity otherwise it is a meaningless word. Now, before I get attacked for cultural appropriation I just want to say that I have a deep respect for Asian culture and I do not intend for this blog post to offend anyone. I merely seek to provide inspiration for my readers and to further develop my makeup skills. Imitation is the best form of flattery, so I hope that my attempt of creating an Asian bridal makeup look shows just how much I admire the artistry that it involves. I’m never offended when someone of a different race dresses up in traditional Nigerian clothes – if anything it makes me feel proud that the person liked my culture so much that they wanted to be a part of it somehow. Phew! So glad to get the heavy stuff out of the way, now let’s move on.
I must confess that I absolutely loooved this photoshoot!! I was so honoured to be loaned a beautiful Lehenga Saree and jewellery by my lovely friend Minal; she actually wore this outfit on her wedding day which made the loan even more special. The colours and embroidery of the Lehenga is just stunning! I felt so sad when I had to take it off; regular clothes seemed so boring in comparison. I have to give my friend a shout out right now: THANK YOU SO MUCH MINAL for your amazing generosity which meant so much to me; I was really touched!
I noticed that in Asian Bridal makeup, more is more! So I did not hold back with my makeup application; in fact I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to use colour without restraint. I created a gold smokey eye and used the most dramatic pair of false eyelashes that I currently own: Eylure Luxe Mink Effect Lashes in ‘Gilded’ (see below for all the shopping links). I contoured my face using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit in ‘Deep’. Then I finished off the look with Mon Cheri, a cherry coloured liquid lipstick by the Beauty Bakery, which I have previously reviewed here. The overall look is rich, bold and ahhmazing! When a bride is draped in red from head to toe she can never be upstaged at her wedding; in fact, she literally steals the show. Stay tuned from my bridal look 2…..can you guess what’s coming next??
