It’s Christmas party season and if you’re anything like me one of the first things you will have to decide on are what outfits you’re wearing and what make up looks you’re going to rock with them. So I decided to create a makeup look to give you some inspiration for your next event – I decided to call it ‘Cinnamon Spice’, LOL! I love giving cheesy names to makeup looks. I chose a cinnamon coloured glitter with flecks of gold in it for my eyelids and built my look from there (see all the products I used and shopping links below). I also chose to use one of my new favourite lipsticks at the moment: MAC’s ‘Chili’; it’s a beautiful matte orange-brown lipstick that strikes the balance between a muted and statement lip. Chili is also an alternative to the more traditional red lipstick worn at this time of year.
For some reason Christmas makeup always makes me think of glitter, hmm, I wonder why? I think it’s because of the tinsel and baubles adorning everything and anything. So my Christmas look reflects the excessive adornments of the season; it’s a makeup look that will look great with neutral coloured outfits like black, white, grey or beige, but I’ve also worn it with a red jacket and it worked!
I’m off to a ball later on today and I’m looking forward to the process of getting all dressed up, arriving like Cinderella into a huge ball room, eating sinful food and dancing the night away with abandon – so frivolous I know, but also necessary. It’s good to celebrate life otherwise it becomes a meaningless march of working hard, facing challenges and accomplishing tasks year after year. Fun experiences provide me with good memories that often help me get through the difficult seasons in life.
I did a home visit recently on an 80 something year old gentleman. He had suffered a stroke and struggled to walk properly. His wife had died a few years earlier leaving him to face life alone. As is my usual habit with older patients, I asked him what advice he would give to a younger person on how to navigate life and I was surprised at his answer. He simply said, “Enjoy it.” I expected him to say work hard, exercise regularly or something more concrete. But later on when I reflected on his words I realised how wise he actually was! So my encouragement to you, and to myself, is to enjoy this Christmas season (even though some of the excesses seem meaningless) and make some good memories.
